Of Hummingbird and Cappuccino

I vividly remember this day… it was a nice weather one weekend  in July. I was sitting in our front porch, sipping my cappuccino. What more could make my day relaxing than to bead… Moments passed, my jewellery toolbox and beads were all set and I too, was ready to start making some pieces before the whole afternoon passed me by.

Then a little miracle happened…

My hummingbird popped out of nowhere! I know this little creature by heart. Her light green wings with a slight touch of pink and yellow just below her beak. I know it is her..  what a pleasant delight that she visited me once again! As if trying to impress me, she graciously flapped her little wings back and forth… back and forth and danced around my hanging basket of fuschias. It was a total bliss. I was enjoying this sight immensely…. when seconds passed, (although it seemed like forever in my reverie) … my little hummingbird, already feasted on the flowers’ nectar- swiftly flapped its wings to circumnavigate the hanging treasure one more time and then bid farewell!

What could a 13- second inspiration give me? A whole afternoon of creative mind to work on my Neon Collection!

The Healing Stone: AMBER

Amber is one of the sought-after precious stones. It’s earth tone, in calming hues of brown, yellow or reddish gold, make this fossilized resin very attractive to it’s wearer. It has a very unique composition- the rarest specimens are those with different inclusions ranging from beetles to flies to spiders and water drops that petrified with it over a long period of time.

The Greeks refer to amber as “elektron”, meaning “sun-gold”.  This association was inspired by it’s ability to develop an attractive force on wooden shavings and straw when rubbed. The English term “amber” was derived from the Arab name for this stone “an-’anbar.” Gold-colored amber symbolizes success.

Amber is known not only for its unique appearance but also for its healing properties. For over 7,000 years, amber has been used to cure various ailments and disorders. It is also believed to stimulate “joie de vivre” and a feeling of well-being to the wearer. It enhances the powers of self-healing and promote decisiveness.

Its significant benefits include improvement of metabolism and treatment of skin conditions associated with metabolic imbalance. Because of its warmth, it is also used in the treatment of respitarory ailments, including asthma. Wearing an amber necklace can greatly and easily ease allergic respiratory problems including allergy to cat fur. It is also used for helping heart problems by strengthening heart muscles. When worn close to skin, it is also good in treating rheumatism.

Caring for your amber jewellery: Amber is warm to the touch since it is a resin (organic origin) and not a stone (mineral). When you feel it warms slowly than normal, clean it under lukewarm running water. Negative energy can make amber cloudy and dull. Purify your amber by bringing in positive energy. Do not expose amber in the sun for a long period of time as this may make it brittle.
